A massive THANK YOU to everyone for making our Club Open Day a huge success
What a day! 134 visitors came and saw Mengeham at its best with all parts of the club coming together to create a memorable day of activity on the water. Of course we were blessed with sunshine but mainly it was the warmth of the welcome people received that they remarked on most. Of those guests who filled in the feedback questionnaire they rated us 5 out of 5 (where 1 was ‘a rubbish day’ and 5 was ‘a brilliant day’!)
Of the 78 adults and 56 children who registered, most tried at least two of the activities offered, which included trips up the harbour in small yatchts, a Cornish Shrimper, dinghy sailing with experienced helms in the club Laser 2000s, Fevas and Tera’s, kayaking, paddleboarding and riding a rib up the creek. Others tried their hand at DragonForce 65 remote controlled boating on the club pond while others visited a cruiser yacht, moored alongside the pontoon, to see what a bigger boat has to offer and hear about preparations for an imminent round Britain sailing challenge. After all the activity, many relaxed with drinks from the bar, lunch, tea and cake from the galley or a delicious ice-cream and took to the sunshine on the balcony and waters’ edge just to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the view.
The Snell family shared their experience on their feedback form:
“Thank you for having such a fun Open Day. We all had a great time. Our trip on the Cornish Shrimper was perfect for our disabled son and his friend and younger sister – we enjoyed putting the sail up and thank you to the skipper who let us have a go at helming! My older son is still raving about the amazing time he had on a Feva – he wanted to go out again and is really keen to try this kind of sailing as its wonderfully sociable as well as great fun! My disabled son loved having a go at the remote control boats which were very exciting. We enjoyed meeting the friendly members and even managed some delicious cake!”.
Following the event the Membership team is busy with several applications to join the club.
Ian Grant added: “What an amazingly successful day; we were blessed with sunshine and perfect conditions for sailing up the creek and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. As a sailing club run by members for members I think the turn out, support and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved really illustrates the heart this club has and what we are all about. This was a real team effort which led to this PTBO day being the most successful event, of its type, we have ever had! Thanks to everyone who helped organise and run the day and thanks to all the visitors who turned up and participated with equal enthusiasm”.
