Dinghy Racing
Regular club dinghy racing for Fast and Slow Handicap fleets takes place every Sunday. With the largest Finn fleet in the country, a growing Contender, Laser and Solo fleets we get a strong turn out and some great racing.
Being tidal, racing starts at variable times – generally between 10am and 15.00 pm on Sundays (Saturdays being reserved for training and junior racing).
Most races are out on Pilsey Sands, with committee boat starts and finishes in the harbour. If the starts are early we chose a club line start and finish or racing out in Hayling Bay. On a full tide we have the full expanse of the harbour available to us, allowing us to race over old style Olympic courses (triangles and sausages) with either two short races or one longer race.
Our single handed sailing fleets are strong and growing and we are keen to establish two person fleets, Laser 2000 or Wayfarer being contenders for a slow fleet and RS 200 or 400 for the fast fleet – but any active and committed fleet would be welcome.
For those new to racing, need a little more help or just want to get used to the Harbour, we run a Shooting Stars series, a gentle introduction to racing rules, flags and starts with shorter courses on West Mud.
There is also the Harbour Explorers events – a gentle sail to various points in the Harbour with rescue support.
Please refer to the club programme or Events in right hand column for race dates, start times and tides.
