Cruisers

The club has a large cruiser fleet of approximately 100 boats of various sizes, both sailing and motor boats. The club has 85 of its own moorings in the creek beside the club.

The cruiser section arranges a programme of rallies to destinations within the Solent and further afield.  Our most popular destinations are Bembridge and Ryde particularly for impromptu rallies.  At least once a year we venture as far as Newport, usually around the time of the Pop Festival in June which is popular with the younger members.

Twice a year we visit Chichester Marina to start and end the sailing season.  These rallies attract the most members of the Cruiser Section as we can always drive there if the weather is unfavourable.

We also hold lots of impromptu rallies to East Head – weather permitting’ – a favourite for all sizes of cruisers.

There are also several cruiser races per season. See Cruiser Events page for more details.

Use of club Pontoon – Pontoon Use – Click to read some important information.  Go to members only section to use pontoon booking calendar, club forms and allocation of moorings.

Another smooth Lift In at Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club

On the morning of Saturday 1st April  Bob Jenkins and his team of willing helpers lifted in 45 cruisers of various shapes and sizes.  In the background Julian Hickman and his team from Blue Harbour Creative Media filmed the whole process.

    Calling all Juniors…

After coming so close last year with George missing out on the Finals by tenths of a second, Paul Taylor and the RIB section are starting practise sessions for all Juniors interested in learning to drive a RIB. There are two age categories, 8-12 and 13-16 and each session is designed to teach juniors to drive a timed course around a set of marks – the fastest time wins. The slalom buoys are set 12.5m apart so that skill and control, and not just speed, are the most important factors.
