JUNIOR NEWS

“From the end of May and into June several of our intrepid junior members have started their sailing journey, on the RYA stage one course at the club.  While others took their next step on the RYA stage 2 course.
The weather gods were not at their most cooperative through the scheduled sessions, but we got afloat on every session and had lots of fun.  The young members have learnt and developed their skills in Optimists or moved on to sailing Teras with great success.  They are all able to rig, launch and recover their boats and sail across the wind, while some have developed their upwind and downwind sailing ready for sailing triangle courses during Mengeham Race Week in August.
They learnt about the importance of weather forecasts and tide information, how to tie some key knots, understand the basics of the rules of the road and explored the harbour and navigation marks a little in the ribs.
Lots of fun was had by all and the course concluded with the award of certificates to all involved.  Congratulations to all on the award of their certificates.
Ian Harris
RYA Principal.”
