Once described as “the best kept secret in Chichester Harbour” we are a club which welcomes anybody with an interest in enjoying the water.

Situated on a tidal creek our facilities and Geographical Position enable us to provide almost anything a lover of the water could wish for – from cruising to model yacht racing, from Swallows and Amazons experience to championship dinghy racing, from fishing to paddleboarding and kayaking; ashore there is a modern clubhouse largely financed by a Sport England grant.

Our club is on the east side of Hayling Island with direct access to the sheltered waters of Chichester Harbour.

It’s a perfect location for messing around on the water in single and double handed Dinghies, Cruisers, Day boats, Kayaks, Paddle Boards and Windsurfers.  And, when the tide is out, we love racing DragonForce 65 remote controlled yachts on our Pond.

A detailed map of how to get to the club is available here Directions.

We are blessed with owning our own freehold site and over 40 acres of mudland with some 90 moorings for boats of all sizes up to 10 metres which we manage and maintain ourselves.

Our own quay and ample car park provides the ability to lift boats in and out and to store cruisers in the winter, while in the season there is a popular programme of rallies to destinations both within the Solent and further afield.

The 10 acres of marshland gives us a well developed dinghy park with ample room for storing boards, kayak and canoes, so for the explorer boats can be moored or kept ashore. With access to the harbour some three hours either side of high water – longer on neap tides – there is ample time to explore the upper reaches of the harbour – going with the flood and returning with the ebb, while the cruiser or the fisherman can be quickly out into the open water of Hayling Bay and the Solent.

A thriving Junior Section receives both formal RYA training and race coaching for those so inclined, with the chance to try out club boats – Optimists, Teras, Fevas and Lasers – before committing to one. Training does not stop with the young – there are opportunities for those more mature, but new to the sport, and the club Wayfarer is available to all.

Dinghy Racing ranges from occasional but convenient club start and finish races to the more regular racing either in the harbour or the Bay.

All, whether young or more experienced, are welcome to join in whatever type of racing they feel comfortable with or challenged by.

Our race management is of high calibre and enables us to provide a limited number of open meetings, a youth week for some 100 boats and competitive racing for the largest Finn fleet in the UK.

For those who remain competitive but like to keep their feet dry the old salt pans now provide a pond for racing radio controlled yachts!

There is truly something for everybody – and at modest cost. It is up to each member what they make for it. Like most sailing clubs we are a self help club, helping to keep down costs but also providing the camaradie that comes from working in a common cause – be it providing rescue cover, serving behind the bar, or helping manage the estate, but not to the exclusion of what we are all here for – enjoyment of the water.
